Labor Day 2000
Dive Demonstration & Display
September 2, 2000
The second annual dive demonstration and equipment display was held in cooperation with the L.A. Maritime Museum with CCED members diving from the Museum's tug, Angels Gate. The day-long event was in honor of the divers who built the L.A. Harbor. A special tribute went to E.R. Cross and Al Hansen who passed away earlier this year.
Also check the additional photos taken by Eva Trusty. Eva took some good pictures of several of the helmets in the display.
A memorial service was held for E.R. Cross at the L.A. Maritime Museum on June 17, 2000. Pictured at the site of the original location of the Sparling School of Diving in Wilmington is Norm Adams (former diving instructor at the Sparling School), Mrs. Dianna Cross, Torrance Parker and Charles Orr

Two members of MOAV (Mystic Order of Aquatic Vigiliance) from Houston, Texas joined in the days activities. Both men are also members of the CCED. MOAVBilly (Bill Gronvold) took a turn at diving, while MOAVRuss (Russ Potocki) worked as tender.

The "tender push"
MOAVRuss really isn't pushing his diver, MOAVBilly, but it sure looks that way! (Think I would watch that guy, Bill.) (photo by Leslie G. Jacobs)
Butch Medeiros from Honolula, then and now. Butch experienced a dehabilitating case of the bends, which ended his carrer as a diver. Butch spent the day watching from the observation deck and visiting with Torrance Parker and other members of the CCED.
